BUYERS GUIDE FOR BOILERS

Picking the perfect boiler is not simple as it seems to be. The variants in each brand are intensified with specifications and minute details that need to be probed deep before a proper purchase.

None of us wish to spend our money on low quality and compromising durability of goods and hence a proper research on the materials used, the size of the boiler, the size required for your home, depending upon the number of rooms and bathrooms one has, is equally important to check before the buy.

The warranty the brand provides, the customer servicing, the guarantee one attains through the expert advice obtained through various sources have to be put together to arrive at a convenient solution.

Picking the right and most appropriate boiler from the wide varieties of models available in the market is quite a daunting task. The model, brand and price alone does not provide the basic information required to decide on the perfect boiler for your home. Choosing the right one is equally significant to ensure safety.

Safety tied to any electrical device comes at a greater expense. The quality and reliability of a brand must be more vibrant than any of its contrasting features.

We have jot down the valid requisites to look out for, while purchasing a boiler for your home :

  • The size of your home space available and the size of your boiler.

The Size of your home decides the size of the boiler. Lesser the number of rooms and bathrooms, lower the required heating capacity.Choosing the right size includes two major factors:

  • Heating capabilities
  • Whether the physical size would fit your home space.

It would always be best to obtain further information and advice from an engineer regarding the heating efficiency required for your home and its installation.

The use of smaller boilers for a vaster home would only provide evident inefficiency. And the vice versa usage of larger boilers for limited home spaces would lead to increased bills, increased heating of limited heating sources. Which could in adverse be dangerous.

  • Compact but efficient as much as the Classic boilers.

Reduced size does not mean reduced efficiency. No compromise is appreciated when it comes to efficiency with regard to the reduced size.

  • Cost efficient and resourceful

The most highlighting feature as compared to boilers since decades is that modern boilers are resourceful and consume less electricity. They do not come with pocket tearing bills at the end of the month.

  • Gas boilers

Choosing an efficient boiler also means moving ahead with time and advancement.  It would be appropriate to use the technically advanced method of heating than to stick with the older methods that could prove fatal or damaging to homes. Gas seems neater and more cost effective. The modern Gas condensing boilers result in a decent energy bill and higher returns of savings on resources.

The above stated model us cost effective and energy saving but runs on oil.

  • ErP rating

Higher the ErP, safer and cleaner the option. As the rating increases the ability of the device to function increases but at the same time the resource consumption decreases and the savings on energy and electricity decreases with high effectiveness.

  • Controls and safety apparatus.

Make sure the boiler you prefer to purchase is advanced enough to incorporate reliable safety measures, safety controls and offers precautionary measures. The device should be manufactured with utmost precision, hence the reliability of a famous brand like Worcester allows you to settle in peace. The machine should consist of good quality materials that do not fuse, melt or radiate tremendously due to high heating. The combi boilers usually come in ON and OFF mechanism that only works as per our requirement. Thus we are able to control the operation manually. The operational device shall be well suited to easy handling and controlling.

  • Lower complexity

The easy functioning and operating of devices makes it easier to handle.

The technicalities to be kept on the comprehensible side of the user is quite a  task for the manufacturers. To which the Vokera has justified itself.

  • Varied ranges.

One’s size of home and the size of device is always interlinked and helps produce the best results always.

The size is what determines the outcome and the output efficiency. The Worcester Bosch Greenstar Danesmoor system comes in 3 variants and hence, one has to look deep for minute details regarding the boiler that suits their home. It is most positively advised to seek the help of a professional or an engineer in such scenarios when in doubt regarding boiler matters.

What Industry Influencers Say About WORCESTER BOSCH And Its GREENSTAR DANESMOOR SYSTEM Boilers:

What are System boilers?

A system boiler lies somewhere in between the combi and regular boilers in terms of the way they operate. Like a combi, they take their water directly from the mains supply however, rather than heating it up and delivering it straight to a tap, the hot water is stored in a cylinder externally. This means that they can deliver a strong supply of water to more than a single outlet at a time but hot water isn’t available on-demand and additional space will be needed for a hot water cylinder. Worcester Bosch and its products are the popular and practical choices of the people who trust in the quality and rely on the efficiency of the brand and its products ever since the start. The company has earned a reputation over the last decades in its field of excellence in innovation, ease of operation, advanced features, customized compact designs, and the production of top-quality heating systems.

The industry influencers on a recent survey conducted have conclusively arrived at the fact that Popular fame of the brand is much due to reliability and productivity it has served over the years. Around 63% of families who seek to purchase a new boiler for their homes do a thorough research and end up buying the No.1 brand due to the ratings, which is ultimately Worcester Bosch.

Ranging from 12 to 20 radiators, single bathrooms to multiple bathrooms and central heating to a limited flat to a vast and spacious apartment can be nurtured out using the Worcester Bosch and its boiler products. The device has a user-friendly display, beneath the flap, making the boiler relatively easy to operate. There you will find a clear temperature display, buttons to increase or reduce heat and options to set modes, such as pre-heating.

The Worcester Bosch product comes with an ErP of 92% and an A rating that does its half for the environment as well. The brand is thus one of the most reliable and trustworthy companies that offer the most efficient boilers of today’s generation.

When it comes to System boilers, the most commonly answered question is whether they are compatible with spaces as much as the combi boilers and provide the same level of productivity?

Well, definitely the Brand has never compromised with efficiency and provides the best productivity.  But yes the System boiler comes with its own features and is definitely unique in its ways. The boiler has a separate tank or a cylinder for storing hot water as a source to the boiler.

Which is absent in the combi boiler.

Hence the addition of the cylinder could seem like an extension to the space utility as compared to the previous Combi models released by Worcester Bosch. At the same time, the feature that is remarkably different from other boilers is in the mounting. This model comes with a floor mounting or floor seatable design that allows you to push it right into a floor cabin or a utility store.

It does not occupy space on a wall and hence can be free of fright in case of a loose joint on the wall.

The boiler is quiet and works well so…

The boiler is quiet and works well so far with no issues. This is down to my choice of installer ACE of Southampton I suspect as in my experience the better the engineer the more likely you’ll have a reliable installation. They had supported my last boiler for the last 10 years of it’s 30 year life so I guess that speaks for something. Looking forward to a fault free future as I’ll be renting my property in the next few years and it’s a vital component to a good let.

This is my second Worcester Bosch boiler. I have had this one which is a green star 800 life. I believe the boiler works very well. I live in a bungalow and I have this one installed in the attic. My only criticism is I wish the controls were more simpler for me as I am nearly 66 on the boiler I don’t even know how to switch it off and on and as for the small remote control I manually turn it on and then off to be honest with you I can’t figure it out my old one used to have a control on the wall and that was very simple to set up to come on at different times and go off but this one for me I do not like the remote control that is my only criticism I would prefer a Slightly bigger Control that was very simple and easy to set up and understand. I’m sure a lot of people will say the same.

I had a Worcester boiler fitted in 2016 and have had no end of issues since. The customer service has been very good and an engineer has always been sent out. However my warranty is due to finish in a few months and I am concerned that any repairs after will cost me. The last engineer who came out in Nov admitted that I had ‘bad luck’ with the boiler and that I should contact Worcester. Since the engineer has been, I have had to increase the pressure on my boiler every 3 days. This should not be happening. I sent an email asking for a replacement boiler as I am sure the current one (due to all the issues) is not fit for purpose. It’s not as efficient as it should be and has therefore increased my gas bills. I have received a reply from a member of management who has not acknowledged all the issues but instead has told me there is nothing they can do and that when the warranty expires I can pay for a new service plan. He has skirted around the issues almost trying to avoid blame. At the very least he could’ve suggested an extension on my warranty for all the issues and troubles. Absolutely useless management and no help whatsoever for a boiler that is not fit for purpose and still under warranty! Avoid Worcester from now on. Prior to this I had a Vaillant which never gave me any trouble. Stupidly I trusted the ‘Worcester hype’ and I now regret it. I have sent an email response back to Worcester and am waiting for a reply. Let’s hope they realise how unfair they are being and actually help me. I will update on this if anything positive actually happens.

When the boiler came out the box and fitted it was in manual mode so when we tried to connect our thermostat it did nothing, had to call Worcester Bosch to go through 3 people to speak to a technical advisor who solved it in a matter of seconds. Since then we have had an error on our thermostat 1037 which points to an outside temperature sensor which our boiler doesn’t have and we can’t seem to get rid of the error.

Other than these issues the boiler works well.

A high quality boiler which has performed very well.

The boiler was fitted in February 2020. This is the 1st time we’ve had oil heating and have found it very efficient. Once the house renovation is completed, the rest of the radiators are replaced and insulation work completed we will see the true efficiency of the boiler.

Ans.

  1. Up to a 12 year guarantee on all Greenstar Lifestyle boilers fitted with a Greenstar System Filter
  2. Friendly help and advice for your specific needs
  3. New installations, servicing and repair work
  4.  Peace of mind with Gas Safe and OFTEC registration

2.  Is it ok to use artificially softened water in the heating circuit in my boiler?

One can have a water softener in combination with our boiler as it will prevent the hot water circuit from scaling up and losing efficiency. But, the central heating circuit should be filled with hard water and a chemical inhibitor.  This can also be done using the water softener – when filling or topping up. Else , the filling loop feed can be connected upstream with the water softener.

3. What could cause an oil boiler – burner to lockout?

A burner lockout could be the result of a no oil or a leak in the pipeline. Another cause of burner lockout could also be from contaminated oil. This contamination could be from:- Water ingress into the tank from a missing cover or a damaged tank from condensation, sludge, which perhaps occurred due to the growth of microorganisms at the water fuel interface in the tank or rust from a metal oil tank corroding.

4 . Can plastic pipework be used on oil fired sealed central heating systems?

For Greenstar condensing oil boilers

Plastic pipework is allowed to be used on oil boilers, provided that there is at least 1000mm copper pipe connection to the boiler before any plastic.

Plastic pipework may also be used on under floor heating systems in conjunction with a blending valve.

Standard efficiency boilers :

Standard efficiency boilers cannot run on plastic pipe in their systems as they run at a much higher operating temperature which could be dangerous using a plastic pipe.

5.  My boiler is producing a ‘gurgling’ sound. What could be the cause?

This gurgling sound may be caused by a blocked condensate pipe, please contact your installer to resolve the issue.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Maintenance

It’s likely that most of you may not pay attention to the boilers during spring/summer, right ! But even during downtime, maintenance is very much crucial and it helps avoid bigger system breakdowns during the time of actual usage

  • Recycling of water

Boilers utilize a closed system. This means that they recycle heated water repeatedly and don’t use any more energy than the majority of the other available heating systems.

More often, they are actually the most environmentally friendly decision especially if you select a high-efficiency boiler installation. This will keep your energy bills low and help you save money on your water heater.

  • Boilers Don’t Always Boil Water

In a boiler system, the heat exchanger is apparently a tube over the burner flames, through which the water flows.

As the water flows over the flames, it is heated to the proper and appropriate temperature before moving on to heat the house. Because of the way the heat exchanger is constructed, the water is not meant to stay over the flame long enough to boil, hence it does not always bring the water to boil.

  • How Often Should I Get My Boiler Serviced?

Getting your boiler serviced when there doesn’t appear to be any issue may seem unnecessary, but servicing your boiler once a year should help to prolong its lifespan.

Having an annual service should help you avoid unforeseen problems with your boiler, and keep it running efficiently.

  • The first boiler ever made was with a safety valve which was designed by Denis Papin of France in 1679; boilers were made and manufactured in England by the end of the 18th century. Early boilers were made of wrought iron which was much less effective; as the advantages of high pressure and temperature were realized, manufacturers turned to steel.
