BUYING GUIDE- Glow-Worm Energy Regular Boilers
Given below is a detailed guide on Glow-Worm Energy Regular Boilers:
How long is the Warranty on this Boiler?
Glow-worm will give you a 7-year part and labour warranty as standard when you purchase the Energy Regular. If you would prefer a longer guarantee, you’ll need to make sure you choose a Glow-worm Club Energy installer to fit the boiler.
Does this Boiler have a Good Range of Controls and Features?
The boiler has a bright LCD and a range of controls including reset and on/off switches and adjustable heating and hot water temperatures controls. If you want to take user-control up another level, you can purchase the MiGo personal heating assistant that enables you to control your heating and hot water from a smartphone. The Energy Regular has some decent features and components, like the automotive-grade aluminium heat exchanger for example. It also comes with top and rear flue options to provide extra siting flexibility.
Is it a High Efficiency Boiler?
Yes, it is. The Energy Regular has a seasonal efficiency rating of 89.3%, making it an ErP A-rated heat-only boiler that will help you to cut the cost of your fuel bills. Another benefit of this boiler is that it can be used with some of Glow-worm’s optional controls to offer the ultimate in comfort and efficiency. There are plenty of options to choose from, such as traditional plug-in timers, the Climapro2 RF wireless programmable thermostat and the intelligent MiGo app-based control.
How will I know if this Boiler is Suitable for My Home?
Because the Glow-worm Energy Regular is a heat-only boiler (or regular, open vent or conventional boiler) it requires a cold-water tank in the loft and a hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard. The majority of people who choose a modern heat only boiler will already have these components installed. Heat only boilers are best suited to homes with more than one bathroom because they can cater to large hot water requirements. The higher the boiler output, the greater the demand the boiler can cope with.
Before choosing the Energy Regular, you’ll need to get a Gas Safe registered engineer to assess your heating and hot water needs. In addition to telling you if the boiler is a suitable replacement, a qualified engineer can determine the correct heat output for you and your home.
How Much Does this Boiler Cost?
Energy Regular output options include 12kW, 15kW, 18kW, 25kW and 30kW, with the highest output being the most expensive of the five. Prices range between £780 and £900, depending on your chosen model. As you can see, the boiler has a competitive price tag compared to some of the solutions on offer from premium brands. But the price of a new boiler doesn’t stop there because you also need to consider the fitting cost, which usually starts at around £1,500. To increase your chances of saving money on these costs, you’ll need to shop around and compare prices.
Is the Glow-Worm Energy Regular the Right Boiler Type and Size for Your Home?
Glow-Worm’s Energy Regular is best suited to homes with higher hot water and heating demands and where a cold water tank and hot water cylinder are already installed. Having said that, there are lower output options available to meet the needs of smaller properties as well. The boiler is also a good choice for dwellings with multiple bathrooms and homes situated in areas where water pressure is low. As there is a broad selection of kW outputs on offer, we recommend you discuss your requirements with a Gas Safe engineer to help you determine the right boiler size for your home.
Energy Regular Technology and Main Advantages
When this Energy Regular is in use, you’ll quickly notice how quiet it is compared to most old regular type boilers. It’s also easy to use and manage as it features a simple interface with a clear LCD, enabling you to adjust settings and keep an eye on what the boiler is doing at all times.
The boiler comes with a decent aluminium heat exchanger that promises to last longer and is capable of helping you to cut the cost of your energy bills. This heat exchanger is also easy to maintain, which should make a difference in service and maintenance costs.
It’s also worth noting that the Energy Regular can be supplied with a choice of rear or top flue options to make it easy for your installer to fit the appliance in several locations within the home.
Boiler Energy Efficiency Credentials
A new energy-efficient boiler will save you hundreds of pounds a year by reducing your fuel bills, and this is precisely what the Energy Regular can do for you. This model is ErP A-rated for efficiency and it comes with a high-quality automotive-grade aluminium heat exchanger, meaning it will help to reduce fuel consumption and provide you with substantial savings. If you want to improve efficiency levels, you can purchase one of Glow-Worm’s optional intelligent controls, such as the Climapro2 RF control or a MiGo wireless programmable room thermostat.

Construction and Material:
All Glow-worm controls are exclusive to the Glow-worm boiler range. They are easy to install and are designed to provide your customer with the ultimate in efficiency, convenience and comfort.
eBus is Glow-worm’s unique communication protocol that ensures our user controls can work intelligently with a Glow-worm heating system to achieve even greater efficiencies with load and weather compensation.
Load compensation uses the controls intelligently with the boiler to directly adjust the flow temperature and increase customer comfort levels. If the room is cold the hotter the flow temperature to the radiators, as the room gets warmer the flow temperature is cooler. Less time is needed to reach a set temperature, room temperature is more stable and the system is more efficient, which lowers energy bills.
Weather compensation uses our outdoor sensor to measure outside temperature and adjusts the flow temperature to meet daily heating demands. The colder it is outside, the hotter the flow temperature to the radiators. As the weather gets warmer the flow temperature is cooler. This ensures the boiler operates in the most efficient way to maintain stable temperature levels and lower energy bills further.

Stories from the real-world use cases:
A Glow Worm System boiler works in a slightly different way from a combi boiler. Instead of taking water from a tank in your loft and then using the stored water to heat a water tank, system boilers heat water directly from the mains. Most system boilers use a small cylinder to warm the water before pumping it to the rest of the house.
Glow Worm markets its system boilers to people who live in flats, maisonettes, and families with limited space.
The company’s offerings are small, compact and relatively discreet.

FAQs:
Q: How long do glow worm boilers last?
A: Servicing older models is usually fine, but remember that even newer generation Glow-worm boilers only last around 12 – 15 years.
Q: Are Glow Worm good boilers?
A: Glow-worm combi boilers are reliable and efficient units that won’t break the bank. They’re the ideal choice for homes with a low to moderate demand for central heating and hot water with 24-27 kW models being ideal for properties with 1 bathroom and up to 10 radiators.
Q: What should the water pressure be on a glow worm boiler?
A: The boiler should read between 1 to 1.5 bar of pressure when the central heating is cold. If this drops too low, below 0.5 bar for example, this normally means water has been lost from the central heating system and the filling loop must be used to replace this water.
Q: How do you reset a glow worm boiler?
A:
- Diagnose and Fix the Fault. After experiencing a lockout, a boiler will display a fault code.
- Find the Reset Button. Most modern boilers will have a reset button that’s located on the boiler’s display.
- Press and hold the Reset Button.
- Wait for The Boiler to Fire Up.
Q: Why won’t My Glow Worm boiler work?
A: If you spot a leak around the heating system, turn off the water supply and contact a Gas Safe registered engineer, likewise if there’s been a sudden drop in pressure. … Once the pressure is back up to around 1.5 bar, your Glow-worm boiler should have sufficient pressure to work again.
Q: Are glow worm and Vaillant boilers the same?
A: In 2001 Glow-worm was acquired by the Vaillant Group, Europe’s second-largest heating company.
Q: How old is my boiler Glow Worm?
A: The serial number is usually displayed on a barcoded sticker at the top of your boiler. This number will be smaller than the Ideal Classic serial code, so you’ll want to go to the last 4 digits and this represents the month and year the boiler was manufactured – pictured below for reference.
Q: How much does a glow worm boiler cost?
A: When it comes to prices, Glow-Worm combi boilers start at around £538.80 and go up to £912.24. The most expensive combi in the range is the Energy 35 Store Combi which features two 21 litre water storage tanks and has a typical price tag of £1,547.64.
Q: How do I lower the pressure on my boiler?
A:
- Switch off your boiler and wait for the heating system to cool.
- Identify and check the boiler pressure gauge.
- If it’s above 2 bars, you’ll need to reduce the pressure.
- Ensure the filling loop or relief valve is tightly closed.
Q: What happens if boiler pressure too high?
A: The water pressure inside a boiler system should usually be somewhere between 1 and 1.3 bar (but check your manual to find out its optimum range). If it’s too high or low outside this range, your system won’t work efficiently, as that’s the range at which all the components are designed to operate.

It’s a high-efficiency model that comes with some decent features including the Grundfos pump and aluminium heat exchanger, so the boiler offers fantastic value for money as well.
Sadly, the boiler isn’t small enough to be sited in a standard-sized kitchen cupboard but it is still a space-saving solution as it doesn’t need to be installed alongside bulky tanks or cylinders. You can also rest assured that the Essential Combi is ErP A-rated, meaning you can benefit from the highest energy efficiency levels whilst lowering your carbon footprint. When it comes to ‘cost-conscious’ combi boilers, this is probably one of the best units out there today.
